I had the most kick ass christmas this year--International xmas. I spent xmas eve with a friend from Portugal and his friends from Brazil, Portugal, Camaroon etc... We had a Portuguese dinner(cod and rabbit) and boogied the night away. Then the next day I went to my friends from Jamaica. We had curried goat for dinner. Delicious! I got together with my family (no presents either) and we had a sort of International Christmas of our own. We did Armenian food pot luck style. Lamb shish-kabob (sp?) Hummus, baba ganuj, turkey stuffed with rice and raisins. spinach salad. It was great.

I'm so jealous!
I was in Bali last year and it is incredible beyond imagination. Go to Ubud for sure. I stayed on the rice paddys there and fell asleep to the sound of singing from the mosques, woke to the sound of birds & insects chirping at dawn. I think of returning there every day.
I didn't get any vaccinations before going, and don't believe that thay are acually necessary. Rabies might be considered a danger because of all the mangy stray dogs running around the steets there.
I miss the smells, the gado gado, nasi goreng, the little offerings placed with care all over the sidewalks, the late night wayang, ketchek, the people...
Thailand & Vietnam are next for me.
It doesn't seem like you are phased by the doctors or you mothers warnings. Thats good, because the most imortant thing is that you GO! Have you ever heard of Grapefruit seed extract? Thats what kept me well the whole 3 weeks I was there. You can get it at the "health food" store. Put a few drops in your water or juice and it will fight off any bacteria or parasite. Load up on Vit C too. As long as you have a strong imune system you will be fine.

I have been faithfully resisting Xmas for years now. Thankfully my family is as anti-consumer/establishment/corporate takeover as I am so we all just gave it up together. I like the site tho. Always nice to be able to print out posters/stickers etc. to spread the merry word.
My comic book site is not up yet. I need to settle on a name for it and buy the URL. I'll let you know when it is though!

i loved all the food. not a single bad meal. not a single mediocre meal... best food in the world. no contest.
Lipe is SUPER easy to get to. no worries... and we met ONE other american tourist there ( good news). the rest were european, and all very mellow. there to chill. lotsa frenchies.
