So I got a new car today! I've been driving around in a very very nice 2006 VW Jetta. Lot's of cool features, very German, uber nice. A little too nice, too executive, too much in general. I got the car when I was still married and my priorities were a little mixed up at that time especially because I was very unhappy in my "marriage of convenience." Anyways it's been bugging me for a while that I not only didn't really like the car (though I realize how nice it was) but it also had both my name and my ex's on it. Plus she snuck in this little bit in the divorce papers where if I'm late on one payment she takes the car back.
Anyways it was the last tie I had to her and it was about time to break it. I was in a bit of a bind though as there was major negativity equity in the car since it's a '06 and I have ZERO money to put into a new car. Anyways I like smaller cars that are hatchbacks and I decided to check out someone I never had before, Suzuki. I really like both the SX4 and the Reno and though things didn't look so good at first with the SX4, they were going to need $2000 down in order to get the payments close to what I was already paying plus my credit score was actually a 630 whereas I went in thinking it was still 660, but we made it work for the Reno with zero down! Adding in the 7 year extended warranty and gap coverage and my payment is the same as I was making on the Jetta but the Jetta was a lease. And the car is all mine!!!! This is my first car that I've bought completely on my own and I feel completely liberated.
Many will probably note that I am paying the same for a much "lesser" car than I had, but I really needed to get away from that car and I couldn't do much else at this time with the negativity equity and having no money to put down. I'm very happy all the same and this car even has an aux input for my iPod so I can quit using my fuzzy radio transmitter.
Freedom has a price.
