The Queen of Heels
Mexican family traditions are strict. at least, before they were. A rule not written compelled to at least one of the daughters to stay with parents in their old age.
That was perhaps the case of "The Taconera" who having reached middle age, stood next to her mother, who was about 90 years old, due to his poor health.
Nobody remembers the name of the lady who, according to legend that still runs through the downtown streets, lived in a modest house Street Juarez.
Never had a fiance, but on the day, the people grumbled about what was heard at night: her heels down the whole street to where the city.
It was said that decked went up there to visit the man who held up a romance. Streets in absolute calm at nightfall amplify the sound of their footsteps. "There goes the Taconera" they used to say neighbors.
His mother suffered from gossip. Some neighbors were sure that her daughter neglected, sometimes even forgetting to feed, so he reproached his irresponsibility.
One night, returning from his romantic encounter, she found the old woman dead. The trouble, especially for the time- was the surprise death in absolute solitude, with no family to whom to give a final blessing without a priest to give spiritual support to his last moments.
And that was the cause of great guilt that weighed on her. she did not go out at night in search of his beloved. They say repentance not let her live and died of grief.
Months later the neighbors heard from her again.
Many claimed to see her silhouette disappear in the same trip he made to reach the house of his beloved. Others said listening at night marking her heels step.
Testimonies abound along all the way so many nights to follow "The Taconera" Juarez Street to the west, doubling the clock on the street (now Bravo), north on Hidalgo, to the Ateneo field.
Those who tried to follow the sound of her heels not ever reached. Even more curious is the claim that people who walk in the opposite direction do not hear anything.
More than 60 years have passed, but still, the streets of Juarez neighbors and Bravo, say hear at dawn the mysterious heels.
