Coachella: 2006 - - - it's over
Well, another Coachella has come and went.
Day two, Sunday, was well worth it, even though there were some setbacks and what-have-you.
First, we got a bit of a late start, but surely we had time to see everyone we were interested in, right? Well, we got most of the way there... see, we're staying half an hour away in Palm Springs... and we stop to get gas, and I jokingly ask John if he has his ticket. Oops. No, he doesn't. He forgot it at the place. So we turned around and drove back to get it. I wasn't really mad, though, cuz, meh, what'll it help?
Then we decided to take a different way, via the 10 freeway to, maybe, avoid some lights. Yeah, whatever. The freeway was a ways away and took just as long. Worse yet, it dropped us on the other side of the fairgrounds, where all the traffic was. Most people used the freeway, I guess. So, it took forever to get parked.
But once we were in, I was able to catch the second half of Matisyahu's set. He's a fairly incredible jew. I didn't think that part of my lineage had it in them. And when he got off I was able to scoot right up to the second row of people to await Sleater Kinney.
And this is where it was worth it.
I was second row for Sleater and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. God damn, I love those bands.
I had to ditch the Yeah Yeah Yeahs early, though, cuz assholes were pushing like crazy and people were getting crushed. That sucked. Lot's of stupid people that were just pushing and shoving and whatever they needed to do to wriggle past the people who got there early and waited to see their favourite bands. Same thing happened two years ago when I saw Belle & Sebastian, Air, and The Flaming Lips. All these Cure fans were being dipshits and pushing and booing.
Getting out a little early meant I could catch some of Seu Jorge's set, which was neat. And we caught a few songs of Coheed and Cambria. What a crazy band. Not really my style, but what a voice that dude's got.
The Go Team.... the last band we saw.... shit dawg... check them out, live, if possible. I had never heard them before. But they're fantastic. A really good show. The lead singer is nutso, dancin' all around. She rules.
Luckily, we got out early enough to avoid the crowd again. I didn't want to get stuck in traffic for two hours and not even get out of the parking lot.
But when we got home and Nicole, who didn't have a ticket for that day, was all drunk. She never drinks and she had, like, six beers or so. She was all, "never leave me alone all day again." Of course, we had tried to convince her to get her tickets for forever, but she waited until they were sold out. So there you have it, tardy ticket-buying leads to alcohol abuse. Conclusive evidence. Case closed.
That's about it, I suppose. Basically, a good show. I can't wait to get out of this desert heat.
