I love the Lichtenstein photo - one of my favourite artists. Well If I wasn't in NZ I would go to your shows... but then if I wasn't in NZ, no one would understand why I think Marmite is a gormet food.
I swear it is.
You've just got to focus really hard...

So I have to take a moment and wonder out loud how it is, exactly, that the current national crisis is 2nd page news in anyone's mind... I don't get why I'm hearing about the New Orleans Saint's touring schedule or anything else for that matter on any major news outlet. There are people trapped in houses barely clinging to life. Why aren't there hundeds...

i really don't like cell phones. or i guess i just dislike the breed of people who are on them every fucking second. by next week i'm sure i'll be one of those assholes! tongue

^She already is one!

I hear ya man. I've not been active around here at all lately. Life's too important at the moment. Especially this crap down south. I've got close friends with families caught in the middle of this shit.

I'm glad people are FINALLY starting to see through Bush. My grandfather, who's voted strictly Repub since Ike, uncharacteristically called Bush a "Fucking Moron". There have got to be plenty more like him, but it's totally unfortunate since thousands have suffered and died. If ANYTHING good can come this disaster, it will be the unified realization of what a disaster this administration has been. I do hope a Timothy McVeigh out there somewhere is about to snap and do something rash....

So yeah, I ended up getting Russ Altermatt and Associates here in town helping out with the acousitcs and treatment of the rooms. Turns out between myself and the architects, we'd really covered the bases well with room geometry and finishes, so we'll only need them with the finer details of HVAC isolation and stuff. Hopefully we'll be starting construction in early October!

I lived through the mountain of hippies I had to endure this weekend at the High Sierra music festival. The locale was good, the peeps I was there with were nice, but the general music the place puts forward just sucks. I do not, for the life of me, understand the appeal of the "jam band." The endless noodle holds no interest for me what-so-ever....

i haven't danced to spice girls yet. i will, though. it has to be a day when the customers are staring and not tipping, so i'll be annoying them with spice girls.

i will let you know when it happens.

I'm about to head off to the High Sierra music festival with some friends. I have recently described this event to a friend as "crunchy and granola enough to keep me regular for 2 years." This is not my demographic mind you, but the people I'll be with are wonderful and sleeping under the redwoods and listening to music all day, albeit crunky tunes, will...

My visual: you spraying people with anti-congestant flu medicine. I hope this differs from reality somewhat.
I'm having to educate my man in BDSM, which is an interesting experience. I always seem to get the inexperienced ones. Sigh. Maybe it's awful of me to say so, but teaching a Dom how to dom takes the magic (and the point) out of it somehow. A bit automatronic... "It puts the shackles on its skin..."
Have been watching Laurie Anderson's performance videos. Damn that woman is hot, and sarcastic. Perfect combination. I love 'O Superman'. Funny, I heard it on the radio when I was probably about 10 and have been trying to find out who's it was ever since...
Anwyay, hope you're well and continuing to sock it to The Man. Werd.

sunday sunday sunday. oh i have no idea what goes on sundays. well, actually, tube! i'm not going, but dj sew what spins great hip hop (the fun kind, not the too-gangsta-three-6-mafia kind).

i like to stay in as much as possible. but monday..... die monitr batss at holocene! and tuesday is das oath next to tube!!!

do these sound like things you do?

xx

ultra:
haha! i suppose i am wise beyond my years.

so! good portland djs.

now, this will need a disclaimer. so here you are: i am biased. my boyfriend is a dj. coincidentally, he is portland's BEST dj, and i am not the only one who thinks so. i thought he was the best dj here before i even knew him.
so, now that we've got that covered....
here is the advice:
if you go to the bar "tube" (3rd and wburnside) almost any night of the week, you will be treated to many of portland's finest djs. tuesday nights my man dj nightschool spins obscure 80s, art punk, girl punk (not annoying girl punk, but like the slits and the flowers). his night is called "no disco".
sundays dj sew what spins hip hop at tube for "i got 5 on it". her night is always packed with her punk friends who sing along to r. kelly. tube has great, cheap drinks, sassy and attractive bartenders, and it looks like the inside of a spaceship.

every other saturday, dj nightschool does suicide club. i've already explained that a little, it a lot more of a dance night than no disco, and veeery debaucherous, so it's always a lot of fun. sometimes he has bands play. his main band, gossip, is playing the next sc (may 21st) because they just recorded a new record. it will be a fabulous time.

also on tuesdays, if you want more of a rocker vibe, go to kelly's olympian. it's on washington (i think) downtown. dj makeout spins there, sometimes with guests.

sundays at towne lounge (nw 22nd and morrison i think) dj dantronix is spinning. he does dance hits mostly. wednesdays at tube dantronix does "vinyl and video" where he plays music videos and djs stuff like nine inch nails.

one more! the last saturday of each month, dj sew what does "$ummer bounce" at dunes. (it's been called "spring bling" and "spring break" and "$ummer bounce" is the latest name i guess.) it's dirty hip hop and the dance floor is packed with people freaking.

if you want to get a taste for dj nightschool, he's djing on monday at holocene (se 10th and morrison) for the die monitr batss show. dmb is another of his bands. kill me tomorrow, supersystem and we quit also playing. if you go you can support local band dmb and have a good time.

have any more questions?

xx

Nice simple day. Had a hard time sleeping last night though, so I got up kind of groggy this morning and things inevitably went more slowly than normal... Ate lunch with a friend and then looked at Home Theater stuffs at a nice high-end shop. I'm trying to beef up on my knowledge about this stuff. I've not bought anything like that in ages and...

Home theater equipment absolutely mystifies me. I'm sure if I took the time to sit down and learn about it, it would be less of an enigma...but I just don't have any desire to. wink

It's offically ass weather in SF today. It's one of those days where going back to bed is the prudent thing to do.

Never again will i pay money to see Thievery Corporation. They didn't even try to mix and in the process completely ruined the flow everytime a new record came on. If they aren't even going to put in any effort then I'm not going to bother.

SF was bipolar today, rainy one minute, warm and sunny the next.

I'm currenly working my way through Twin Peaks - it's so good, but NZ doesn't have the second series DVD yet so I don't know who damn well killed Laura Palmer!
