IF YOU BE'S IN MINNEAPOLIS THIS WEEK COME CHECK OUT THE FLAMMING FILM FESTIVAL, THERE IS AN AMAZING DOC CALLED PIC UP THE MIC, THAT DEALS WITH QUEER HIP HOP. THIS SUNDAY AT 7TH STREET ENTRY SOME OF THE HIP HOP ARTISTS FROM THE DOCUMENTARY WILL BE PERFORMING AND IT'S NOT TO BE MISSED!!
The fun work update is that a certain rockabilly star has made the place I work his Cheers. I've been taking his presence as a sure sign that I do and WILL form a female psychobilly band. I'm kinda tired of seeing ONLY suburban boys from MN playing rock/psychobilly music. I'm southern guad-dambit, so excuse me for getting a little snotty over the matter. AND while I appresiate and love that people everywhere are making this underpreciated music, I ask: Can anyone think of an all female (or mostly female, or queer, for that matter) rock/psychobilly band??? I think it might be of historic importance that one try to exist. AND, though I love the music, the scene has gotten too pretentiouse and male centered. It's big hair and big tits fast cars and fast beats, but it's been lackin' in the soul department for a while. Less posturing is needed, less trying to sound like every other rock/psych band, yo. Plus, I want to connect to my southern, poor, outlaw roots. Music with honesty is a better batch of good.
[Steps off soap-box]
So, after this summer there is no more, me and Mach FoX. He gave me an amazing opportunity but I need to be a part of music that is in my heart. I've assembled most of the femalians for the band and hopefully we can create a good-damb brand of no-law primal-billy.
