well..i am off of jury duty!!
what a crazy case...the defendant(who we found guilty) chopped off a persons head over a rap beat.apparantly he was an up and coming rapper and he used the decedants homemade recording studio to record a track that got air time,and the guy that owned the studio ,never compensated him for it.so instead of taking him to court(if he was actually able to identify this beat as his own anyway)he decided to rob him of all of his recording eqpt. and chop his head off with a machetti.the pictures werent all that pleasant,to say the least.
the funny thing is,i am ussually pretty anti establishment,and felt going in that the prosecution was going to have to blow me away,and boy did they!!
i honestly cant say how i feel about this.on one hand i feel great because i was very vocal in the deliberating room,to get a guilty verdict,on the other hand,i realize that no matter how sure i was,there is still the chance i was wrong(albeit slight)due to human error,and my being so vocal in trying to sway some peoples minds(actually only 2,they were"not sures")i feel actually puts the burden of this conviction more on me then any of the other 11 jurors,but then again,i am always a person to accept more responsibility,then i should..
i am really just ranting,and its because of all the different emotions i have over this.in hindsight,i almost wish i wasnt put on this case,and that my opinions didnt affect a 34 year old man,that is now going to spend nearly the rest of his life in jail.(even though i was way beyond a resonable doubt)it is a responsibility that carrys a huge weight of burden with it..
