So sore....

Did 3 rides this week. That would normally be a slow week for me, but those three rides added up to 294 miles.

122 last weekend in Tahoe (6000+ altitude), 40 Friday, and 132 more yesterday with over 8000 feet climbing.

And right towards the end of yesterdays ride, my left knee decided to give up. I don't know what happened, but just...

Back from Tahoe. Man I love that place.

So, first off, the ride. Lap 1 was perfect. I was out of camp and on the bike by 6:15 AM, and finished lap 1 just after noon. Just under 18 mph. Perfectly on time.

It was a great ride. The road out to Truckee and back had some construction, so that wasn't so great, I didn't...

Sounds like a superb ride, even if it wasn't as long as you wanted.... and I just have to say - sweet potato fries... yummy!!!

Its getting close.

So, long story short. Back in the day, me and a bunch of college band geek friends went camping every summer. We went lots of places, but usually it was to Fallen Leaf Lake, right next to Lake Tahoe. And the tradition was I would ride my bike around Lake Tahoe, and they would hike up Mt Talac.

I changed it from...

I know I shouldn't laugh at the tan line misfortunes of fellow cyclists, but you description of your tan line was just too awesome biggrin
I've taken to viewing my tan lines as a badge of pride, and it sounds like your new ones were obtained in a particularly noble pursuit.

WHOA!!! A double century ride? Are you MAD, good sir? wink Seriously, best of luck on that epic journey. I'm sure you'll be just fine and will have a great time with it. And we DEFINITELY will hope for some pictures, if possible.

Are you band camping yet? Tis the season, it seems...

Jeeze... These deals are getting farther and farther apart. Oh well...

Yesterday I passed 3,000 miles on the bike for the year. Twice as much as all of last year. And, today I finally hit my goal of 160 pounds. The same weight I was my junior year of high school. Just over 2 years to drop 70 pounds. It took a while, what with...

I think any artist gets those momentary lapses in "holy hell, do I really wanna keep doing this????" It's those moments of doubt that keep bringing us back with stronger commitment than before. Besides, even I know that you're really a musician all the way to your toes. You just needed a reminder.

Congratulations about your weight and all the biking! Getting back to "the old weight" is fantastic for the self confidence, isn't it? After all the weight loss and the tummy tuck to rid of all the "extra leftovers", I'm back to the same size as college and I actually went out and bought a new swimsuit for the first time in 15 years! I haven't committed NEARLY the amount of time to training and exercise that you have, but I know you've been steadily plugging away at this for a long time now. Your hard work has paid off!!! woo hoo! Now we just need pictures..... wink

AIDS/Lifecycle 8, the long version

For those of you that like the numbers:

29:51.03 Time on the bike
501.9 Miles (60 miles short due to closure of Day 6)
17.02 Av Speed
21870 Feet Climbed
23432 Calories Burned

I will try to keep this as short as possible.

And I will probably fail.

Anywho

This is one EPIC ride you did! Awesome! You gotta be so proud of yourself and rightly so. What a great thing to accomplish for yourself and others.

Me, on the other hand? Well, the drum corp is playing for two local cycling events this weekend in Portland. A nice little bike fair/street scene called Cirque du Cycling which is a fun little family thing. Then tomorrow night is the Naked Bike Ride. They expect about 2500 naked cyclists to pedal a course around the city just after midnight. I'm serious...

Here's a little guidebook if you're hesitant about going commando on the road wink
Linky

Okay, not as fabulous as your accomplishment, but it's about as close to bikes as this girl gets. wink

My parents live 4 miles from me. We rode there today, and I did 10 mph going, and about 8.5-9.5 halfway coming back, but then I hit a slight uphill grade and could barely do 6...my thighs were killing me.

It's getting close. It's the only thing I can think of. This ride will be the first multi stage event I've ever done. Hell, it will be the first event I've ever done, organized anyway.

Funny, I'm 32, been riding bikes since I was 12 (actually, much younger, but I was 12 when I got my first mountain bike and found the local trail systems)...

Wow, almost a month. Time flies when your... How's it go?

Training has been going incredible. Just the other day I passed my total miles logged for all of 2008 when I passed 1550 for this year. I think I'm ready for the AIDS ride.

Then, Saturday night I partied with some old friends in the city, and met some new folks. Several people had...

Do you get nervous riding up highway 9?...I get scared and slow almost to a stop when I am passing bicyclists when I head up that way.

I think the most I have ridden in one day is maybe 4 miles.....um, yeah. Im working on it. wink

For a great challenge, you should think about doing Cycle Oregon one of these years. Epic, week long bike trip in the late summer (not sure if it would collide with your band camp, though). My ex-boyfriend did it every years for a long time and loved it. It's kind of spendy registration (not for the faint of heart), but they take care of EVERYTHING! Food, showers, bike repairs, you name it. Entertainment every night, kind of a sweet deal. Go check it out. It's usually big news around here. 2009 is sold out but it's never too early to start thinking about 2010! wink

Yesterday's ride kicked my ass. Officially. Both literally and figuratively.

Short story: 119 miles from San Jose to Tres Pinos, just south of Hollister and back.

Didn't think about the fact that I would have a headwind on the way back. For 55 miles. Straight. And continually getting stronger as I go further north and later in the afternoon.

My legs right now are burning....

April 12, 2009.

About a quarter of the year passed.

1,066 miles ridden so far this year.

Last year? 124.3.

Hahahahaha....

I just got one of those little pedometer things for my bike, so I can see how fast I am riding and miles and all that.

Smokin' !!!!!! That's awesome! biggrin

Such a beautiful day today.

10 AM and already 65.

Sunny, not a cloud to be seen.

Perfect day for a ride.
wyldesage:
Is was so beautiful outside today!!
dmac:
40 degrees, cold and wet here. Standard Oregon fare. BUT! I'm off to Dallas TX in a couple days for the rest of the week and I'm told it's in the 70's. Hell, I'll take it!!! I may even be able to wear a skirt to this convention without fear of freezing my legs off! Have a great ride and know that I'm totally envious of all your nice weather. Mine's still a looong ways away. We really don't shape up here until June. frown
