Not much going on. Marching season is over, with a heartbreaking end. All season long in 1st and 2nd place, and "interesting" judging and a not super-clean show at championships put us in 9th place out of 16, 1.15 points out of playing at finals the next day. Tough break. Lots of tears.
This is one of my favorite senior classes we've had (been teaching there for 8 years), and 2 of the seniors were private students of mine in junior high school, and they were the first students of mine that I got to see all the way through from junior high to seniors in high school. They really are like family. So it was tough for me for them to come that close and miss out. I still get a bit choked thinking about it.
Oh well, now it's done. And now it's time to get back into training. I really need to get back on the bike. But if I plan to climb Mt. Hamilton again on New Years Day, I need to get going. It's tough, since I hate the cold. I guess I'll have to figure that out. Somehow.
So anyway, here I sit sipping tea and listening to Radiohead. I forgot just how good OK Computer was. Today is my Sunday, (life of a musician) tomorrow I teach all day. However, I do have a gig tonight at the Fairmont downtown with a big band. Not sure if it's the San Jose Jazz Society Big Band or the West Valley Big Band. Guess I'll find out when I get there tonight. Glad I can throw down when sightreading...
In other news... I donno. Not much to write. Life is steady and boring this time of year, the month or so between the end of the high school marching season and the new year. So I'm in autodrive. Both symphonies are in their winter break, the musical (White Christmas with West Valley Light Opera) ended last weekend, the next musical isn't until January, although we have started rehearsals. The private studio is finally growing, so I can ease a bit on the money front.
Yup. Autodrive month. That's about it. I'll go back to my book now.
