Sweat. Dripping into my eyes.
Sounds like the beginning to some bad 80's power ballad. Blah.
Anywho, as I really do sit here waiting patiently for the sweat to stop pouring out of me, I'll ramble a bit. Unfortunately I'm out of beer, or else I'd pour an Arrogant Bastard. Ah well, water will have to do.
So, ramblings. A few things have been going on lately, some good, some bad, some just dumb. A list:
1. The musical is going well, I'm really enjoying playing West Side Story. I've always loved the music, and playing it is just as fun as I always imagined. Plus I'm discovering several students that are in the cast, which is always fun. Good stuff.
2. On my way from my car to my house last night after the show, as I was dressed in all black carrying my horn, music bag, and Taco Bell for dinner (I know, I know...) someone drove by and
shouted the one word in the English language I won't mutter out loud in public. You know, the one that rhyme's with "nagger"? It was strange. It took me a second, and I didn't even turn around, I just looked up, as if to think, really? Really? They just drove off. Oh well. Idiots.
3. The musical destroyed my goal of 500 miles in July, but oh well, I think it was worth it. The final count was only 315 miles in 22 hours, 30 minutes, 23 seconds, and 14,550 feet total altitude gain. The musical took away any thought of a century, or a longer ride at all for that matter, so I was kinda screwed going into the last 2 weeks less than half way there. I had planned 2 century's, one a week, one to Las Pinos, south of Hollister, and one to Santa Cruz and back.
Oh well, I still have some options for getting at least one of those in before the cold season comes.
3.5 Today's ride felt great. 45 miles, South Jo through Morgan Hill to Watsonville Rd to Uvas Rd. and back through the hills by the reservoirs. Hard ride, longer than usual, and with a strong headwind on the way back. Good stuff though.
4. The weight loss is back on. I slipped for a while, being over stressed and over gigged, double booked several times, and just overly cluster-fucked. But it's back on.
I am officially down to 196, and creeping towards 195, which is about what I weighed my first year of college, in 1996. 15 pounds to go, and I'm at my goal. 180. Then I'll try to keep it.
More than loosing pounds, though, is how I feel. I have never felt as good as I feel these last few weeks for as long as I remember. The Kashi with fresh fruit and fat free milk for breakfast, fat free yogurt, PB&J, and fresh fruit for lunch, and pasta or chicken and rice or some odd thing for dinner. I'm getting everything I need plus more, and nearly none of what I don't.
And it feels FABULOUS.
5. The teaching thing is going well. Bass Workshop is flying, and sounding great. I have them playing to relatively difficult pieces, hard for them but not crazy, and one extremely difficult piece. And I think I'm finally getting through them on the practicing thing. Good stuff.
Can't wait for band camp!
Anywho, it looks like I have successfully finished sweating, so I shall now go shower.
