So, I just realized my week from hell is a bit longer than I expected.
Let's see:
Monday: Symphony #1 rehearsal in Los Gatos.
Tuesday: Symphony #3 rehearsal in San Mateo
Wednesday: Symphony #2 rehearsal in Redwood City
Thursday: Trombone ensemble rehearsal in Santa Clara
Friday: Symphony #2 Dress rehearsal in Redwood City
Saturday: Symphony #2 Concert in Redwood City
Later Saturday night: Sisters birthday party in Campbell
It's a long week. I'm even debating taking tonight off, the trombone ensemble, but I doubt it. I betcha I'll make it. Like Adam Goldberg's character said in Dazed and Confused, "I JUST WANNA DANCE!!!" Well, that's all I wanna do. I just wanna play. I can fully see myself becoming a classical trombone bum. Sweetness.
And it's pretty much like that for the next month and a half, with concerts, dress rehearsals and gigs sprinkled here and there. (I'm still not sure how NONE of them conflicted... Even the parties I have coming up have no qualms.)
As for the symphony I'm subbing for, well, let's see. We've only rehearsed Stravinsky's Firebird, which I have never played, so I was sightreading. Now, I'm a great sightreader (not to toot my own horn, I've just been focusing on it for 15+ years...), even in fucking alto clef like this was, but Stravinsky is a bit different from what we are all used to, so it was a struggle. I managed to feast on myself the first time through Danse Infernal, but as I grew accustomed to the clef and the conductor, I relaxed a bit and started to nail more sections. That one should be a pretty sweet concert, I can't wait. Add that to the next set in Symphony #2, where we are doing Mahler's 3rd Symphony... mmmmmmmmmm Mahler.....
The studio is shaping up quite nicely, adding both a crazy amount of extra time in the week, and of course, some sort of income, which I guess is nice these days. Being self employed does suck, but now I am a bit more comfortable with 20 students and 3 more in the planning.
Ah well, at least I still have the mornings free. I really should start up some Yoga again, or at least get on the bike or work out or something. Or practice. Yeah, I need to practice...
Or, just go play some more Geetar Hero.
