So, a little holiday catch-up seems to be in order.
First off, the Christmas in the Park gig with the trombone choir. The gig itself went amazingly well. Three of my students came out to play with the group, and kicked ass. The whole group sounded great.
But, then there's me. I made a few mistakes, but for the most part, I was pretty stoked about it. However, afterwards, people kept coming up to me saying how great sounded, how awesome I was. (here is the part I always hate, complimenting myself, even if through others voices...) Students, families of students, my family, other members of the group, their friends and family, and then total strangers. That's always strange. Getting compliments about the individual playing from strangers. Good stuff.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not a very competitive person. Actually, I'm not competitive AT ALL. However, sometimes even the meekest of us all want to do better than those around us that we have some sort of problem with. I that, I did. The other lead player in the group is an amazing player. However, he does have a bit of a skeleton in his closet. Well, it's not really his closet, it's right out in the open. Long story short, to justify it, he didn't hook up with his current wife until a few years after she graduated out the high school band program in which he was the director. Yeah.... one of those....
So, I was pretty stoked that that night I blew him out of the water. And even more stoked that it was so apparent that the audience knew it to.
Fun.
Now, on to Christmas. Meh, that shall wait till tomorrow. Time for the beach.
Oh yeah, and on to the next task. The fucking search for a real New Years Party. Something about going to someones house for a small party/gathering with a bunch of couples seems not-so-swank to me.....
