I just got this in my email and i thot i'd share, simply go to www.eqca.org/HarveyMilkDay and vote even if you don't live in California, even if you don't live in the US, only if you believe in his efforts:
Please sign the petition to Governor Schwarzenegger urging him to sign the legislation making May 22 Harvey Milk Day in the State of California , paying tribute to the sacrifices he made to advance equality. And then please forward it to everyone you know.
Last year, Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed a similar bill saying that my uncle was a figure of only local significance. He needs to hear from you how important Harvey is and his significance across the state.
You and I know the impact Harvey had on the LGBT liberation movement and the greater civil rights movement. And millions more across the state and country now also know it because of the film Milk.
My uncle wasand still isan inspiration. Not only as one of the first openly gay men elected to office, but as a trail blazer who understood the value of working with allies, the importance of living our lives openly with authenticity and the power that our stories have to change hearts and minds.
This year, we can recognize Harvey by getting the Governor to sign the bill creating an annual day in my uncles honor, making him the first openly LGBT person to receive this distinction thereby furthering Harveys universal message of equality for all.
But to do so we need to make sure the Governor knows how important Harvey is to all Californians. And, please add a special message to the Governor about what Harvey means to you.
The petitions will be delivered on May 22, Harveys birthday, so please be sure your friends and family have signed, too, by forwarding this email and asking for their help.
In the month leading up to what would be my uncles 79th birthday, at this historic moment in our movement for equality, please join me, Equality California and Senator Mark Leno, the author of SB 572, in helping make Harvey Milk Day a reality in the State of California .
As Harvey famously said
You gotta give em hope,
Stuart Milk
