National Lampoon's Eastern European Vacation is finally over.

Have you ever had a book that you read at different points in your life? Say in middle school, then in highschool, then in your 20s. And each time you read it it seems completely different, right? But really, it's just an indicator of how much you've changed.

And so it is with visiting your distant roots....

Wow, that's depressing, I'm sorry to hear it. I blame NATO. We made it our mission to topple communism, gave big support to Lech Walesa when the solidarity movement started, then completely abandoned all of the former soviety countries when they were no longer our enemy, to leave them floundering away in a capitalist world they weren't particularly well prepared for. Bummer.
irina:
d'oh! I suck.

Back from Florida.

What a crazy adventure that was. And how completely necessary.

Cruel circumstances in the last year had forced me to undergo an all too precedented transformation towards robot dom.

Forseeing this eventuality, I booked a ticket a month or so before complete robotification. Making my way down, I had *no* idea why I was going anymore.

Thankfully though, the doors of perception have...

sounds like you had a good time, or at least a necessarily mind-clearing time on your trip. Off to Poland?

"You're like a chameleon," she said. "You blend into your surroundings and take them in. You play the roles just to see what they feel like. You take them all the way."

"...almost," I replied.

"But you can't take anything seriously," she sighed before slowly looking up at my blank expression, a tinge of familiar longing crossing her face. "You're soooo apathetic."

She stares for...

Ah Florida. After many months at home in Connecticut it's hard to imagine how I ever could have gotten sick and tired of nice weather, beautiful sunsets, and good friends.

But it still is what it's always been to me. An Island of Lotus Eaters (well a peninsula anyway). A fine place to feed every possible appetite as you idle away your last days.

But...

After months and months at a job that filled me with an overwhelming urge to escape (my job, my body, the country, etc), I'm starting to get the feeling I overcorrected.

So now that I quit last Friday, I'll be going off to Florida for two weeks to see friends and then later in August will be off to Poland to see family.

As is...

Another weekend in NYC.

A few movies, a birthday party, a BBQ. The rest we'll make up as we go along (that's the schizophrenic, not royal "we").

Fourth of July is one of the few holidays I can really get behind. Knowing that, despite their horribly unsafe reckless nature, fireworks are legal in almost every state gives me some hope.

Maybe "fun" still means something...

Oh no, not the trains! Anything but the trains!... whatever

You're a big boy, I'm sure you'll manage. Just let me know what your plan is.

And I still don't have my computer back, so I don't have access to any messaging clients right now. If you want get in touch with me in real time, you'll just have to call me. Life is tough, I know.

SGNY open call and meeting SG people for the first time:

I suppose there's a few things that could have been more fun...like being elected president of Russia...or having a snowball fight on Mars or something.

There were, of course, a few uncomfortable moments. Like when Irina cornered me all crying and started revealing all this personal information. Or when legionnaire tried to start a...

I almost pissed myself when I finally read your journal entry. I was about to say, "You're pissing off more people in the group than me!" ... until I read the comments, poser!

oink

Aawwwww, you and Irina are so damn, retarded for each other. Seal the deal, bro! biggrin

I sense some sexual tension in the replies to this journal.

I've been spending waaaaaay too much time online. Especially at work.

I've managed to configure the database that I've been putting together to look a lot like SG. I've also configured my browser so that it looks like I'm reading important company emails when I'm actually reading blogs.

Despite my cynicism, I would say there's something redeemable about almost every job. I think this is...

I often lose all human ability to recognize patterns.

Sometimes I'll just be in a room full of bodies, each one a big sack of guts and fluids so highly compressed that it will squirt for a few yards when pierced. Each one is built around an armature of 206 bones connected to each other by notoriously fault-prone joints that are given to obnoxious creaking,...

Reading a bit too much Burroughs, eh? I prefer to think of the human body in a slightly more abstracted form, it tends to separate what it's composed of from what it's capable of.

I'm officially a book addict. (Well it beats smack) I'm averaging at least 3 a week now. Almost all non-fiction.

I guess that's one healthy way to fill the hole left by a missing lovelife.

Of course, it's hard to meet new girls in between the pages of a paperback. I can't seem to ever strike a balance.

I marvel at people who have a...

Try not to take it too hard, dude.

It's hard to get sarcasm over the internet. And with all of the crazy emails we get from creepy members, SGs are usually a little extra-sensitive to stuff like this. biggrin
