Word comes from the journal New Scientist that the discoverers of three species of slime-mould beetle want to name them after U.S. President George W. Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheney and Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Though the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature is worried that the names might be seized upon by comedians -- safe guess -- the entomologists who identified the bugs insist they are...

I just returned from watching Hotel Rwanda. It was OK, but not especially informative - essentially an African Schindler's List.

The book Shake Hands With The Devil was a much better account.

Read your reply in that thread. Seeing as how they've gone on to bashing/defending the NYT, I'll be brief here.
Firstly, Poland was only one country Stalin took over. Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Albania, and half of Germany.
I find it hard to believe FDR would agree to let a psycho nut like that have anything let alone Poland or any of these others. If he did, that is a horrendous mistake on his part. And Truman was right to oppose it. It started the Cold War, fine, sometimes you can't avoid such things. And it did take two to tango, after all.
Truman wasn't perfect i know, but he hardly deserves to be listed among the worst. He did a lot more than most of the presidents we have had, especially more than the last four or five put together.
There. Said my piece.

Hey, sorry I didn't respond to your points on that thread a few days ago. I had a family emergency and haven't had a chance to do anything net related since.

But you're wrong! wink

Today I saw a mini torch designed to flame Creme Brule. It was on sale @ Sonoma and watchmacallit for $ 80.00! A standard plumbers torch is $20.00.

Never underestimate the potential for conspicuous consumption. I must go back and re-read Thorsten Veblen's
Theory of the Leisure Class.

I watched Clinton speak at the DNC last night. He really is an articulate man.

Toronto is really quiet today. I guess everyone is watching the soccer game. The Portugese and Greek neighbourhoods should be wild this afternoon.

Me, I'd rather watch paint dry.
