I'm going to take another break from my travelogue because my head feels like it is floating in a mason jar full of vanilla pudding. Had an awesome interview last Wednesday for an assistant editor position at a magazine I was (briefly) an intern for - but, friends and neighbors, it turns out the editor in charge who interviewed me wants to marry me!...

Travels Abroad, Part 5: France

I was an admitted, open Francophile from middle school through college - occcasionally mistaken for being French by native French-speakers (sadly, no more.) In fact, I'm listening to Edith Piaf right now. But despite all my obsessions with the language, the culture, and the land, the thought of being in France frankly scared the sh*t out of me. Fortunately, my...

Yes, the innocent into all things russian thing!

Y'know my in-laws (some of em) live in gay Paree. In fact, G went to high school there for awhile.

They really thought you were French? Assuming that's true, I'm impressed!

Y'know they speak a lot of french in Vermont, it's being so close to Quebec and all. There's another plus for ya!

And yeah, they have a lot of baby-torturers there in France. It's why I won't go back. Not even for the nutella crepe street-vendors!

Travels Abroad, Part 4: Italia

Most people I've talked to about... well... the world, seem to agree that Italy ranks pretty high on the Cool Place List. I'd have to agree, but not for the obvious reasons. While my experiences with the country were limited, I think I've figured out the key to finding the Italy we all dream about: avoid big cities!

Milan was...

I LOVE Florence. Yes it's full of tourists but it's so beautiful and magical. I'm with you though, the smaller places off the beaten track are much nicer. Though in all honesty, I haven't been there since I was much younger. I'd love to go back, I wonder how different I'd find it?
Vernazza looks wonderful! Did you have icecream? Italian icecream is amazing. And there are roughly a bajillion different flavours. mmm...

I just reread this entry. It makes me almost sick with wanderlust. I don't need much to make my wanderlust go crazy. At least I have a short trip to, well, Florida in my near future.

Aww...but I love alcohol! Man, I can't believe it finally snowed. We're going sledding tonight, so I'm all excited. My friend Jay is leaving to go to Japan for a year next week, and he had promised to take me sledding, but it never really snowed after last october. Well, wish me luck with the pills and such. I hate medication, but I've tried cold turkey and i'm falling apart, so let's just hope this helps.

Your travel pictures are beautiful, especially the one of ireland. I hope I get to see europe one of these days.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled travelogue with this pointless entry:

I'm a little grumpy at the moment, so I have to vent about something. And I think right now, that something is going to be the sketchy quality of some recent photosets. Some have been pretty cute, but others look like they were shot with a disposable camera and all the creativity of a peapod....

that looks totally beautiful!! I don't the ass smacking, but they would have to get my pretty plastard to get to me go down a mountain that I can't even see!!!

Were you guided down the mountain in that parachute or did you have to land yourself? I could imagine that being rather amazing, as you descibe. smile

The view up that street is amazing!

i am getting high on paint fumes. I think I need to burn a candle or something, geez. Actually kind of nauseating.

Listening to PJ Harvey "Rid of Me" I so love her.

Hi there.

Glad you enjoyed the photos. Did you get the email I sent with some others?

My Uncle was in the Congo. In 40 years it changed from the Congo to Zaire and back to the Congo again. He is a very interesting speaker. Today I started reading his new book on Afrikan witchcraft. I'm the first family member to get it. He wants my opinion as I've traveled to many places in the world but never to Afrika as you know. He wants to see if his writing has painted the picture for someone who hasn't been there.

I jumped on the scales naked today. 200.20LBS. Not bad.

As for the flowers, it is a great job, but very low pay. The chips are much better and less hours.

Let me know if you got the pics k?

Have a lovely Monday.

As promised, my first installment of photos from time spent abroad in 2003. Much of my recreational travel had something to do with the beautiful Vincent van Gogh. While I found the museum dedicated to him in Amsterdam to be pathetically lacking and uninspired, I thoroughly enjoyed the off-season visit to his last home, Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris. A quaint, friendly little town... the place he...

I'd love to do a set with my glasses, but I have no idea where I'd be "welcome" to post them. It's frowned upon to get attention in SG Hopefuls, and I'm not plus-sized enough for PSW.

Sometimes I get immense pleasure out of being completely sadistic. Don't get me wrong - it's not that I enjoy giving others pain... it just makes me feel like a better person when I exercise my powers to their full extent.

For instance: as I pulled into the driveway today after work, the DJ was putting on his big voice to announce some "undiscovered artist"...
