12/24 What are your holiday traditions -- family, friends, regional, etc.
This year I started some of my own holiday traditions! I hosted my first friendsmas in my new house! It was the first time that I had a group of my friends all in my house at the same time. We had pizza, brownies (that I had planned to cut into triangles and make xmas trees out of, but naturally I was running behind). We exchanged gifts and I got so many cute things, including 3 squishmallows! 🥰 my plush collection is forever growing. It was a really nice evening filled with laughs. ❤️
When I was younger, in school we would always write Christmas letters to nursing homes or those in the service. This year my boyfriend and I found this organization called Pink and Black, which is an organization for incarcerated individuals who are a part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community that are living with HIV/AIDS. We wrote a batch of Christmas letters and sent them out. For those who are incarcerated, just having someone to communicate with on the outside is a harm reduction strategy. You can also become pen pals with an individual, so it doesn’t have to just be a seasons greetings! I really hope those who receive our letters end up with a smile on their face. I know if I was in there, it would make my entire day. This is something I’m going to try to do every year. Here is the link to their website if you are interested in participating! https://blackandpinkpenpals.org/
On Christmas Day I always have dinner with my mom and dad. I had breakfast first thing with my dad and boyfriend at Waffle House and then we exchanged gifts. Later my mom came over and we started cooking and had dinner.
This year the day after Christmas my boyfriend and I went to Pittsburg to visit his family. It was the first time meeting them and it was a success! It was a short little trip but a nice one. We are currently driving back to Nashville now (in some yucky, rainy, winter weather that gives me hella anxiety lol 🥶).
I have always had a small family at home, as my relatives aren’t very close to us (physically and emotionally?) but we always make the best out of it. I love a good non traditional holiday celebration.
I would love to hear how you all spent your holidays! The new year is right around the corner!!
