right then! i'm back from the states and oh so busy with horrible essays and house hunting. but not too busy to write about my state-side adventures!
so i was in Maryland for four days at a big huge dog show helping my mother out. i pretty much grew up at dog shows, but haven't been to one in probably 4 years or so what with being away at school, so it was a lot of fun to catch up with people and be around all the dogs i miss mine when i'm in london.
next stop NYC where i _finally_ saw Rent on stage (it's been one of my favorite shows for what, 6 years now? based on the sountrack alone). that was very cool and exciting and generally awesome i was only in NYC for one full day but i got the chance to catch up with some friends i hadn't seen in ages (a year and a half for some!). i also managed to get on the wrong subway train and ended up in Queens apparently i'm not to be trusted with unfamiler subway systems or cities in general. when left to my own devises i always get where i'm going, but it usually takes me at least an hour longer than it should have. and of course i was very silly and did not bring an umbrella and it absolutely poured. i don't think i've ever been so wet in my whole life. every time i took a step water squelched out of my shoes. this did, however, lead to an exciting adventure involving hand dryers in the bathroom of a movie theatre after seeing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. i spent about half an hour sitting on the sink counter trying to dry out my toes and sweatshirt while my friend assessed the damage done to her journal which managed to pick up the color from her red bag when it got rained on (and she did have an umbrella! it was a very determined kind of rain)...that pretty much covers the New York excitement. i did nothing touristy whatsoever. maybe next time.
on to DC...i went to georgetown and got to hangout with my little brother (who is neither younger than me or my brother) in his natural habbitat and meet his friends. that was pretty cool. not a lot happened there. just kind of hung around really. went to the library. found a comic shop. ate some tasty food. again, didn't have enough time to do any proper exploring and the weather was too uncomfortable anyway, but i had a good time
so yes, now i'm back in london and the weather is great and i'm stuck inside writing essays. it was the birthday of one of my future housemates the day after i got back so i took the day off from unpacking and schoolwork. i got him a 1 liter 50% bottle of smirnoff from duty free. everyone was quite impressed with it's giganticness. so the four of us who are living together next year sat around in his room drinking and watching anime music videos for a bit before heading out with a few more people to Synthetic Culture. lots of dancing ensued. and this time i didn't make the mistake of taking gum with me so they had nothing to confiscate at the door! didn't get to bed til 5am, which isn't too bad for a night out i guess, but probably didn't help my jetlag any.
and now i shall leave you with this oh so attractive picture of me making faces at my friend's webcam!

Hope all the hideous amounts of work go well, maybe go for some london travels once I'm back and you've finished it all. I'm hoping that by the time I come back, summer will have arrived. Doesn't look like the weather in Vancouver is going to be all that different from here at the moment, but at least I'll be somewhere different, give my head a chance to reboot.
I'll post some pics once I'm back,
till then, good luck with everything,
D x
