Yay, Cinco de Mayo! This is the day to eat Mexican food, drink Mexican beer (Pacifico and XX, in our case), and drink margaritas de la muerte azul. Two shots of tequila, one part fresh lime juice, one part orange liquor (in the US, Narajna is the best, in Mexico is is Controy), and blue curacao for color, with ice.
All right, eating Mexican food ant drinking Mexican beer and tequila drinks. How is that different from any other day?
Well, we have a legitimate reason. On May 5, 1862, at Puebla, a Mexican force or 4,000 under equipped soldiers defeated over 8,000 of the best soldiers in the world, the French Empire. Emperor Napoleon III hated the United States. After the death of the one, the only, the original accept no substitutes Napoleon, the US stopped paying France for the Louisiana purchase, because the deal was with Napoleon, not France.
Nobody knows what Napoleon III wanted those troops to do. Perhaps fight for the Confederate States of America. Maybe occupy the area of the Louisiana territory. Nothing good.
Stopped by the outnumbered and outgunned troops of Generalissimo Ignacio Zaragoza, the French Empire was unable to accomplish there strategy, whatever it was. I tend to doubt, that the French Empire, or the British Empire, could really have been even a slight difference in the American Civil War, but it is little matter.
VIVE MEXICO!
Love Mexico. Love Mexicans. Especially Mexicanas. Hate El Tri.
