In Tampa.
No problems getting in, getting our luggage, getting the rental car. Chevy Malibu, since Megan does not like little tiny cars. Courtney drove us to Dulles, and Aisha rode with us. As an aside, I often wonder who Dulles was named after. John Foster, or his brother Alan. Aisha gave me a kiss as I stepped out. Aisha and I are often affectionate in public. Courtney gave Megan a kiss, too. Surprising, as Megan and Courtney save the affection for home.
Megan wore sunglasses most of the time while waiting for the plane, and on the plane for a while, too. She sat near the window in the terminal and on the plane, to give her an excuse. She was covering up her red, puffy eyes. She had been crying since morning.
This is the time of year that Megan and Courtney ritually break up. In three weeks, they will get back together again. They take separate vacations. Courtney goes to the Canadian Rockies. Megan will spend a few days with her parents, and then join us in Cabo. Then we spend a week at home, without Courtney. Normally, this is not so traumatic for Megan, since she knows this is coming. The GOP convention, however, caught her unaware. She did not think she would be going, and it shaved off three days she could be with her girlfriend.
We will watch the last few laps of the race, and then go outside and smoke, and drink beer. It will be the last chance for us to smoke (I have an Arturo Fuente!) because this will probably be the last day without rain.
Tomorrow, the fight starts.
