Only 24 more days until X-mas! Which means, only 24 more days until they stop playing terrible holiday music over the PA, having everything in green and red, and shoving it all down your throat!
I'm not a scrooge or anything, but I really hate how commercialized X-mas is. I hate how department stores are starting to put up stuff for X-mas in July, I hate how they tell you that you don't truly love your friends and family unless you buy them this years hottest gift, and I hate how people treat each-other during this time of the year. At my work on black friday, a fist fight broke out between customers and the police had to be called in to keep the peace. Whatever happened to treating people with kindness, peace towards your fellow man, and generally not being a huge fucking prick? Apparently, it doesn't really matter during that time of year where, you know, we say it the most.
As of this year I am withdrawing myself completely from the shopping season. If it isn't food, necessary clothing or something that I cannot physically live without (heat), then I am not buying it. Instead of throwing money at a problem and saying, "I care about you $_ worth!", I'm going to actually spend time with my family and be close to them. I'm going to be kind to strangers that I meet or walk past. I'm going to donate my money to some charity that helps people, instead of lining some asshole's pockets. This is the season of giving, not the season of buying.
