so, it's been awhile since my last journal entry. mainly because i had a fun entry about the sgb in chicago, and also because i wanted to break my record for most commented journal entry. and i did it. whoo! whoo! okay, that's pretty lame of me, but when you're unemployed and for all practical purposes broke-as-a-joke, every little bit of self-esteem counts.
i've been spending a lot of time at the cactus club, drinking and meeting new people. i've been a regular there for over a year, but i always sat there stoically with my drink and talked to no one. but after a while of people seeing you there a lot, they get curious, like "who is this fucking guy?" and they approach you & start bullshitting on a regular basis. i've been doing pretty good at remembering names & all that. it's come at a pretty good time for me, because i feel as if i'm on the outs with my two long-time friends jenni & kelly. they've been pretty distanced after all that stuff with kelly went down, and i don't like the direction this is going. but the cactus has been a safe haven for me to meet nice people, and since the joe/kelly band is over, a good place to meet people who might want to do a band with me.
so friday sucked. i had no money to drink with, but i found a half-bottle of vodka and went over to jenni & kelly's to hang out and drink. there was nothing to mix the vodka with except water. i wasn't very good at conversation with jenni & her boy john. kelly was there a while, but she completely ignored me. eventually someone got a bottle of whiskey and some diet coke and i managed to get drunk for free.
my unemployment check came in on saturday and i was up early enough to make it to the bank to get it cashed 5 minutes before the bank closed. that was great, another night like friday would've sucked 14 dicks. so i had money again and i went to the blue water cafe for a cup of coffee. my hot jailbait waitress was working and i told her about the all-ages show at cactus. she was totally down for it. so i go to the all-ages show, and it was strange being in my bar when a) no drinks were being served & b) with sunlight pouring in through the windows. i met up with some cactus friends and between bands we'd all (all the over 21's) go up to palamino for shots & beers. i saw call me lightning, temper temper, and since by man. i liked the first two bands a lot, but since by man really didn't do anything for me. so it was back to the 'mino to loiter until the 21+ show opened doors at 9pm. i got pretty drunk and saw crossed wires, i missed the set from the reverse (too busy drinking, i guess) aand then saw the set from bleed. but the highlight of the night was the mistreaters. i know 3 of those guys from the cactus (as bartenders) and i'd never seen them play. all the drunk guys (myself included) de-shirted and got gloriously sweaty to their brand of fun-time garage rock.
i went home and passed out. what a fun fucking night!
