I went in to work today on my day off to attend a staff meeting (more commonly referred to as a "bitch fest"), wherein everyone proceeds to get defensive and feelings are hurt and nothing really gets resolved. One would think that a group of professional nurses could not be reduced to kids playing in a sandbox fighting over who gets the blue plastic shovel.
My boss is a great girl and genuinely tries to do the right thing. However, she is on the younger side and this is her first supervisory position. And she is a serious people-pleaser who DOES NOT like confrontation and will do anything to avoid it. So the *smack* does not get put down on things when it really needs to be. On the other hand, another lady we work with is older and is quite overbearing and know-it-all-ish and loves to tell my sweet little boss exactly how wrong she is doing everything and how to do it the right way (her way, of course). So this nice concoction of personalities (with the rest of us screwed-up people) make for a lovely group meeting. We are a small group, so of course things get magnified times 10. Oh well, what can you do? Drink heavily.
And thus why I would never even think about taking any kind of management position......it seems to be the most thankless and frustrating thing. I will continue being content with my staff member position and try to keep my sanity (although sometimes I wonder).........
