I agree that the pink ribbon thing is just a marketing ploy. Most companies have a limit to how much of the money go to the charity, and their actual profits skyrocket because of it. But my theory, is, if I'm going to buy the product regardless, might as well buy the one with pink ribbon.
I do an AIDS Walk every year, which is similar. It's true that most of the money doesn't go to *cure* the disease, but it does go to support groups, shelters, etc to for people that have it or their survivors. I'm all for that. Plus, events help raise money because people only have to give a small contribution and all of the donations add up. I mean if I could afford to give hospitals thousands of dollars, I would.
