The pink elephant in the room...
Well I won't state the obvious meaning behind today. BUT what I will say is my heart goes out to the poor suckers-- er, uh, I mean guys who decided to take their women out shopping today. After my workout, I had to swing by the mall to hit up Sephora (if you're a guy and not sure what this place is, it's a very large store that sells makeup and junk). Anyways, walking around, I see all these visually depressed men lounging in the rest areas with shopping bags. They were either sleeping or patiently waiting as their women continued their quest in the sport of shopping.
I've got a few words for you gentlemen that do this:
1) bring a book or magazine
2) If you have an iphone or an electronic device that can obtain downloadable apps-- do it! gear up and download all your favorite games, web-based literature or sports/news info
3) Wear comfortable shoes.. you'll be trekking through the mall endlessly as the right hand man in your woman's quest for the cutest most perfect shoes/purse/top/coat/necklace/dress/jeans etc. (you get the picture)
4) Drink your fluids! Stay hydrated. Most malls are outdoor-- you'll be baking in the sun or experience dry mouth for hours of sitting
5) Set a cap on time-- preset the trap that you have already set plans. Or keep the ball moving by saying you might have seen that same item she's been debating at another store (for example, if it's too pricey and she's been contemplating it for over 20 minutes-- suggest you try another store. This keeps things moving).
and lastly, NEVER agree to do that again unless you really have nothing else to do and/or you don't mind the shopping experience. Seriously, that's what Gift Cards are for man!.. And to smooth it over with the cherry on top, make it all about her and her girlfriends-- make a reservation for them for lunch in addition to shopping and have a bonding day together with THEM. This saves you the agonizing pain and gives you back your personal time.
I guess this whole blog inspired me by what I witnessed and by my friend Alex who is (and is currently in hell) spending the entire day and night with his woman.
Happy Vday
