So there's homework about favorite authors and since I am a big book nerd, I'm all over this one. First of all, let me say that I am a book purist, meaning I like to turn pages made of paper and smell the ink and have shelves upon shelves of actual books in my home. I'm not into the digital book thing, doesn't do it for me. I just read a study saying that when we read digitally we don't actually absorb much of what we read.
As for favorite authors, I have to start with Ram Das, author of Be Here Now. This book is as close to a bible as I have in my life, I found it years ago and it profoundly changed my views on the universe. Basically, cosmic divinity exists within us all, if we can only tap into that level of higher consciousness through meditation, trance, psychedelics, etc. I highly recommend it.
I can't fail to mention J.K. Rowling in a list of favorite authors, because I am a super mega Harry Potter fan. Ask me any HP trivia, I dare you. I also really love Michael Pollan's work as far as narrative non-fiction, particularly The Botany of Desire. Another of my all time favorites is Gregory Maguire, author of Wicked, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, etc. I love the way he takes well known fairy tails, turns them on their heads, and mixes in real historical fact. I'm a big fan of fantasy and historical fiction so that's a great combo for me.
Who are your favorite authors? And seriously, who's got Harry Potter trivia for me? Try to stump me if you can.
