Happy new year.
A quick recap of 2008: A relationship fell apart early on but dragged on and on. Grad school finished. New York was moved to, an apartment into, and a job attained. Art was made and shown. People were slept with. The SG camping trip was attended. New, cool people were met. A trip to Washington was made. Ties were fortified and severed. Other things happened too, but I think these were the most interesting.
So, new year's, mine was fun. Crazy shit happened that I was going to write about but don't feel the need to anymore. I'll tell you that it involved music, friends, drinking, dancing, narcotics, and sex and then you can fill in the rest. I've resolved not to feel guilt about anything, not in a selfish way, but in a way that allows me to enjoy my life. Ever since a young age I've had an extremely active guilt complex, which is strange as I wasn't raised Catholic, but I'm feeling like it's not so productive or useful. So that's that. The girl I met that night is also a stylist, so I got a nice new haircut for the new year which is good as I was starting to look like Patrick Swayze.
Planning on going to LA in the near future to visit friends and scope it out. Possibly more to follow, it's not a real plan at this point.
I also turned 29 over the two week break I had from work. It was a fun enough birthday though not all that much happened. As per the norm, I took no photos of anything. Here's a basic run down, "Hey, let's go into the city since we never do." "Okay, cool." Mars Bar: gnarly people relentlessly making out in varying positions. Cherry Tavern: full of bro-dudes and sorority-esque girls. This led to referring to girls as believable, or more often not-believable, in reference to their general attractive/cool ratio. Manitoba's: dead. The Shrunken Head: really just kind of bizarre and dead. Then finally, "Fuck this, let's go back to Brooklyn." "Totally." The Charleston: fun, people to talk to, a bar tender who wanted to take shots. I went out with my friend who is in a newly exclusive relationship and always trying to get me to hit on girls. It may be a matter of living vicariously or it may be that he likes to hear the stories about when things go horribly wrong which they sometimes do. If you are unsure what I mean, please refer to my Halloween blog and know that he and his girlfriend were playing wing man that night.
I've also started working on a trip to Denmark and Sweden. The reasons for this trip are hard to count, the metal one being the least important, but I think it will be a good thing for me on a number of levels. Undoubtedly more will follow on this subject. In a nutshell, I have a ton of family over there, only a few of whom I've met and have not seen since my grandfather's funeral 11 years ago. There may be some atavistic nostalgia or something as well, but I really feel like I need to go see where my families immigrated from.
Oh, I was nearly arrested shortly before new year's for carrying an illegal knife. It was confiscated and I have to go to court in March. I'm not especially worried about the summons, but am bummed to have lost the knife as it was a gift from an old friend. Plus it was really fucking cool. Plus now I have no knife and feel a little naked without one. It's probably better not to be carrying one around, I guess.
That's everything, thanks for the birthday wishes and good luck with the new year!
