I was sentenced to death and they led me into the sterile room and laid me softly down on the gurney. Two nurses on either side gently took my hand and slid an IV into my palm, stigmata-style. A sign was given and the slow drip began. The nurses told me to breathe deep and easy. I panicked and loudly began to chant out the names of the people I loved: Mother, Father, Sarah... the list went on and as it neared the end my consciousness began to dim, darker and darker and darker, and then...
I awoke with a gasp, heart racing, palms spread open to either side of my head as if in surrender. I was still crying out the names of every person I've ever loved.
