so here's the story
let me bring you up to date
i went to Germany
and it was great
had a good time
saw many cool things
now being at home kinda stings
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnyway
Berlin is the coolest place ever. it was so fucking amazing being there. and goddamn dont Poland feel like a 3rd world eastern block country now.
Kreuzberg is SO beautiful. being there walking around in the streets made me so happy
i gotta live there! i must! and soon
it was such a shock to see people walking around at midnight with grocery shopping and kids, and the mix of people! all the different styles and types and cultures. man! i know this is making me sound like some country bumpkin but thats exactly how i felt after this piece of shit place. Cape Town may be the end of the world but in many ways its way more cosmopolitan than fucking Warsaw.
the first night when we finally got there we were really tired but excited so we went out and ended up at, i suppose, the dingiest dodgiest little dirty pub bar type place, Zum Goldenne Hanne, full of ooold punks and oooold dudes in leather cowboy hats drinking whiskey and playing cards peering at us through the thick smoke that hung in the air. the bar lady was ooold too and had pink hair. unlike in Poland most places are non-smoking in Berlin and its actually really nice. unlike in Poland despite the scary clientel and us sticking out like sore thumbs i totally didnt feel any kind of fear or danger with these people. they looked at us a bit funny but didnt seem offended by us being there. HOW AMAZING IS THAT?! you prolly dont know how amazing that is coz you dont live in Poland where everyone gives off the i-might-decide-to-beat-you-up vibe.
anyway, the next 2 days were something of a blur, we walked around alot ate only once a day but what a meal it always was. J was the official phototaker and she photographed all the food. if i ever get a hold of the pics i'l show you. Damn that was good eating.
Bicycles!!! so many beautiful bicycles we saw!
we walked around just taking everything in. went to a big music store where they actually had some niiiicce guitars.
the plan was for me to meet with Lavezzaro and shoot a set on sunday morning. i was very amped for that. unfortunately, on saturday afternoon, i suddenly got my period 3 days early. so... that sucked. the Jewish museum is now assosiated with PAIN for me. otherwise, honestly, the Berlin Jewish Museum is a boring piece of crap. the first part were you walk around weirdly sloping corridors and there the huge tower room you go into and stand in the dark...thats awesome. otherwise the rest of the exhibition, total bullshit. sad sad. sorry but a digital boardgame that you play as a jewish merchant and win by Bribing!!! the local lord....
anyway, also saw checkpoint charlie (yay! touristy things!) had Dunkin Donuts!! that was a first for me. im not big into donuts in general but yeah they were cool. needed that sugar after losing all that blood
we spent the evening drinking in more awesome places and had kebabs at 3 and the whole trip was so perfectly movie-esque. or book like. on the friday we started our trip i read the last 6 pages of jack kerouacs On The Road. how fitting.
sunday was more complaining about how there was NO HOT WATER at the place we were staying at then more sight seeing, and back to rest for 30 mins before heading out for the show,
OMAR!!!!
this was one of those shows that you know you will one day be mentioning as one of the moments that inspired you when you're being interviewd for RollingStone or something.
i had a super spot, right in front of Omars pedal board. which i touched a bit after the show. we all got picks and sat on the stage drinking glasses of water watching some of the band members packing up equipment. i went and leaned against the wall next to Marfred and Marcel who were discussing something.
we walked out of there intent on finding the 24hour pizza place the guy on the door told us about. we got there eventually just to see a man locking the metro station 0_0 .... ooops
but the pizza was wonderful. amazing pizza. and becks. at 2am
yessir
afterwards tho our feet felt like they had turned to ice and we were tired and cold and we ended up taking a taxi home.
monday was our last visit to Oranien Strasse (have i mentioned that the coffee is fucking great everywhere?!) we had pizza and amazing wrap type things with looooots of rocket. amazing amazing. then we enjoyed ourselves in a grocery store and then we had to go
it was very sad, though the car ride was super fun
man
