So, the husband and I were talking about the bill that passed which won't allow women in combat. He agrees with it except he took it a step further and said women shouldn't be allowed in the military, period.
I asked him to explain himself and he said that of the women hes worked with they are whiny, lazy, and incompetent physically and mentally and in any situation of hard, physical labor they get out of doing work and he doesn't trust a woman to protect his back. Of course, I had to agree since he's met every single woman in the army and worked side-by-side with them (note sarcasm).
I thought this no women in combat would be enough to pacify him but apparently not. I will conceed that in general men are made stronger than women however, I think its been proven many times over that women can do just about anything they put their mind to, including physically strenuous work. And my husband is far from a high speed, super soldier in the physical dept. For freaks sake if I really weight/strength trained my muscles would surpass his (my biceps pretty much are there already).
That kind of thinking is something I had to deal with alot while growing up. I was this short, little, girl that wanted to hang with the boys. I could look cute but I could beat them up too. I made it a point of proving (at the physical fitness competitions) that I'd lead the girls and I'd beat many of the guys as well. I hate the idea that I'm underestimated solely because I'm a woman. Come back and talk to me when your insides are squished by a womb expanding up to thousands time its normal size to house and nuture a human, the bones in your pelvis moving to accomodate a 7-9lb baby passing through a 10cm opening but before this actually occurs you go through hours of excruciating pain.
But aside from all of that just the fact that his brain gave an OK for that comment to exist as something accurate and to even exit his mouth has made me so upset. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how he thinks excusing the role/contribution of women in the military is acceptable.

i wish it was all over tho...
hahahaha. Sorry that is one of the funniest things that I heard in a while.
I know that women are more than suitable to work in the military and on the police force. Some women, more than others, have a calm head in situations that demand concentration. I know a few women detectives where I work and the things they do; I have heard praise about them from other males detectives.
You have to love the narrow mindness some people are capable of.
