First day of first grade today. He was very excited once I got him to wake up. We walked to school together. It's a nice feeling walking your child to school. All of his new school supplies in his new Spiderman backpack. It was kind of a weird feeling making his lunch and snack bag after three months of summer vacation.
We also went to his back to school night last night. My ex pulled into the parking lot just as we did so we all walked in together. It wasn't necessarily uncomfortable it just seemed a little surreal. We got to meet his new teachers and find out which of his buddies are in his class from last year. Then I let him run around in the common area with them all for a bit. The poor little guy had a long day of recording sessions where he sat playing computer games all day (plus a total of about two and a half hours in the car going from studio to studio and home again) so I figured he deserved a little crazy time.
I got a call from an old friend of mine from Chicago yesterday. He is in town to show his new short film at the LA film festival (I didn't even know that was going on. Shows what a parent I have become). It's playing at the Arclight on Saturday night. I told him I had my son this week and wasn't sure if I could make that. I had forgotten that he didn't know about the divorce, so I had to explain it all to him. I actually got a sleep over for my son on Saturday so I can go see it. I'd like to take a date but I don't know how terrible this film will be and I would hate to alienate any of my friends here.
If anyone in town is up for it drop me a line.

Besides heavy drinking tend to make the body hurt, and I'm getting too old for that anymore.
