I just saw the trailer for Funny Games with Naomi Watts... I'd like to go on record as probably the only person in the U.S. who actually has the ORIGINAL version of this movie (in VHS, no less) from like 1999 - a German flick with subtitles, written and directed by Michael Haneke.
It's basically a violent little testament to the sterile randomness of life. I used to pop it in as a date movie, as it had in spades the two elements that usually send the ladies running for the door: excrutiatingly long spells of inactivity, and brutal assaults on innocent people. Tough love, I know.
Anyway, I'm sure the Hollywood version will be both less boring and less entertaining at the same time, in that magical way of theirs. Someone should invent a service where, for like $100, you get to slap a Hollywood exec in the face. I would really like that.
