So, there was a moment yesterday afternoon, whilst I was struggling to paddle beyond the surf break at Nauset Beach in Cape Cod, when I nearly drowned. This head-high wave, at least a six footer, folded over me before I could duck dive or turtle roll, and I was dragged under the water for a couple of seconds, at least. I obviously saved myself, since I'm writing about it. If I had drowned, though, it would have probably taken a long time for people to find out what had happened to me, since I went surfing by myself and I had told no one where I was going or what I was doing. I could have just disappeared in the cold briny depths of the Atlantic, and no one would have known my fate. I wonder how long it would have taken you to figure out I was a goner. Heck, you probably wouldn't even know, though, given the fact that we're only connected through these rather pointless blogs on this meaningless site. Would you have cared?

PS - the best rendition I ever heard was Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" with about 60% cowbell.
