I'm so glad you read my blog and commented on it. Most people have NO idea what I am going on about when I talking about roller derby and feeling frustrated cos I can't do something. It's just nice to be able to relate to other people learning too. Makes me feel less annoyed at myself, as we are all in the same boat.
I have to do that with cross overs too!! Had practice again last night. couldn't do them again, I so I had to walk sideways one leg over the other. then I remember I can do them.. But not around a corner - which apparently makes them easier?!! Stupid mental block on them. argh.... It will just click on day, right? And we will both be awesome!!
We've only really been doing hits properly the past few weeks. I seem to be okay at taking them - i don't squeal.... I just close my eyes!!! My god, I need to stop that, as that won't be helpful in a bout. ha ha. Last night someone fell behind me, and slid into the back of my feet completely wiping me out backwards. Her foot was between my legs, luckily I landed on her shin, as that would have been an interesting bruise. I found it funny though. I fall over a lot in normal life, so maybe I am used to it. I have a big scar on my knee from where I triped over a pole outside the Rockits venue and cut my knee open before I even got into practice!!!!
yeah - I wear bum padding too. Not really fallen on my bum since I started wearing it though!!! But I will keep it on forever. I bruised my tailbone in january - was horendous! So now I have azzpads that are for snowboarders. Doesn't protect my bum cheeks, but its hard like knee pads, and great for my tailbone.
I don't know how I do crossovers in a straight line?!! its only like 3 steps (as I can't do loads yet) - essentially like cutting the track while doing it i guess - like in a diagonal fashion?? i'm just odd!!!
I get down on myself as I don't feel I am progressing as fast as everyone else. But we shouldn't do that. everyone goes at their own rate - and we will be awesome too
