In just one week from now, I will finally get to see Alaska! It's the last of the US states that I have yet to visit, and I'm pretty excited about that! And, it's not for work, surprisingly. Although there will be a bike involved. My "excuse" for going is I'm going to race the singlespeed world championships (SSWC). I'm not going to be anywhere near as competitive as I have been in the past due to life/work but I'm just going to take it for what it is and give it all I have, and have fun at the same time. Did anyone catch the reference to my screen name? Onespeed, also known as a singlespeed. Yeah, I'm a bike geek but I can live with that :) Once upon a time I lived for riding/racing my single speed (mountain bike) and tackling huge rides that most other people would have a hard time doing with gears... and i loved it. I miss those days, a bunch. But I have come to terms with the fact that priorities in life do eventually change, and with that some things have to fall to the side. It's a bitter pill to swallow. But... enough with the downer talk. I get to go play on my bike in the Alaskan wilderness, drink and be merry for a handful of days! I'm travelling solo, and know nobody there, and have only a vague idea of when the event actually is. Details for SSWC are typically scarce... show up between these dates; ride around the town/city to meet up with other people there for the same thing; "find the bar" where race headquarters is based around; drink; time and location of the race will eventually be disclosed. This will be my 5th single speed worlds, though I haven't been in three years now. I am sooo looking forward to throwing myself back in the mix of all the shenanigans I can hardly contain myself !
