i went to the Grand Canyon yesterday.... just for the day. it was a four hour drive each direction but i had to do it because i have come so close to seeing it for so many years and never quite made it. now that i am moving from Az. in a couple of days, i couldn't put it off any more. i have to say it was pretty cool. i hiked down into the canyon for a couple of miles and then turned around and hiked back out. i wish i would have went further but i wasn't sure how long it would take. the 'average estimated time' for the hike i did was supposed to take 4-6 hrs and it was supposed to take longer to hike back out than hike down. i guess i don't fit the average data. took me 3 hours and the hike out was twice as fast as the hike down. fun, but had i known what i was capable of, i would have hiked even further into the big hole in the ground.

Dude, you should have done the National Lampoon's Vacation thing. First time I was there I went to the edge, looked into the canyon, breathed deeply and said, "Alright, let's go".

Sounds like you're pretty fit Mister! (was there any doubt?) Plus you can totally say "Been there, done that" but with an added "and am way above average"
