The Hurt Locker - 5/5
Wow! So from the opening scene until the closing scene this movie pretty much defines "edge of your seat" cinema. I think I was holding my breath for the better part of 2 hours. And once it's all over it still doesn't let you breath a sigh of relief. Using set pieces and claustrophobic locations (even one out in the middle of a desert feels tiny) to give the tension instead of soundtrack and cheap scares you come away with a film that feels much more genuine.
The characters show the spectrum of what often becomes of warriors, either someone seeking distance from war and peace in life, or someone addicted to it and determined to live as close to death as death will allow. One main character after being constantly in danger, goes home to find he can't bear the mundane things in life like simply choosing a brand of cereal.
I won't say it wasn't without flaws, but any movie that opens with a Chris Hedges quote pretty much has me sold from frame 1.
