Just watched "For No Good Reason," the Ralph Steadman documentary, and it got me thinking about the one thing my films have always been lacking, good artwork.
I've worked with painters and graphic designers for promotional artwork (posters, DVD covers, and whatnot), but I still haven't found one and thought, "this person is the one I want to keep working with."
Perhaps I have unrealistic expectations, but what I'm looking for is a Steadman to my Thompson. And not in any true Steadman sense, and not in the style of Steadman, but that weird symbiotic/mental soul-mate sense, where the two create two halves of one great thing.
Someone who can take not what I've filmed, but what I've written, the madness on the page. Someone who can take their own interpretation of the written word, and put it onto canvas, paper, whatevever the fuck the digital equivalent is, and create one image that stands out and screams, "LOOK, YOU BASTARDS, YOU WANT TO WATCH THIS!"
I think I find that, I'll never be fully satisfied with any promotional material attached to my films, be they short or long.
The last piece of the puzzle remains elusive, and the journey to find it continues.
