I don't like the social scene at school.
Basically it comes down to the fact that you're expected to make friends in a very INDIVIDUAL atmosphere. You're studying and doing the work and taking the tests all without the needs of anyone else. You can't make friends in class because no one is really approachable. You're all basically strangers to the point where you can sit behind someone for 6 months straight without knowing their name.
So, at least for commuters like me, where does that leave you? You go to class. You go home. End of story.
Unless you want to take the sit-with-anyone in the cafeteria approach, which is very isolative and reminds me of the thought of what a singles bar would be like, you're fucked.
Comparatively work is a completely different atmosphere. People are down to earth. I've always felt like every kid in high school had some sort of phony attitude that just doesn't fit. Everyone will at least give you the time of day, but it's also a lot more...competative? You get people ignoring people, putting them into class systems. Ect ect ect. it's stupid.
Which is why i'm not going to try to make friends at school this semester. I'm not saying that I'm going to be a dickhead or try to alienate someone being friendly to me, nor will I refrain from being talkative to someone who i find interesting. Basically I just don't want to fall into the trap of thinking that I'M FUCKED UP because i don't have someone that I can connect to in my class. F' that in the A'. I'm tired of people being fake.
