First of all, I have to say that I've traveled to a number of places and have enjoyed each one for different reasons. I'm always up for any kind of adventure.
That being said, if I have to pick one, it would have to be when I was in Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. It's on the gorgeous Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea and it is all kinds of perfect. White sand beaches, beautiful blue water, sunshine and plenty of Tequila. And it is smaller and a little slower paced than Cancun.
I loved exploring all the shops, but even more than that I loved the ruins and the cenotes. I even got to go swimming in one!
It was both one of the most peaceful and spiritual moments of my life, as well as absolutely terrifying. It was beautiful, but those caves can kill you quicker than you can blink if you aren't careful.
And it was extra stressful for me because I went a week after I dislocated my finger and it was still very painful and I could not swim with dexterity anywhere near my normal. Which was even more depressing because I was there with an entire family of current and former lifeguards and being in the water was number one on each of our to do lists.
I still managed to drunkenly swim topless in the middle of the day however. ;)
