Actually, we probably should never give advice, even when someone asks for it. However, it is often helpful to give information and then let it go. Too often we get invested in our information and are so sure of our rightness that we have to make certain the other person accepts it.Somehow, deep inside of us their acceptance of our information is directly tied to our self-worth. If they don't accept our advice and act on it, we are somehow not liked, respected, valued, and a whole string of other adjectives.
As we get healthier, we are learning to give and let go.
I HAVE good information to share. It is more likely to be heard when I give it and let it go.
