Fixers and Fixees
Once again I was brought to my knees as I learned that each of us must access inner wisdome for herself. I can point out the road map, perhaps, but I must completely let go of the outcome.
-Christine Northrup
We live in a society of 'experts' and people looking for experts. Unfortunately, the two groups fit together quite nicely. Also, unfortunately, the 'fit' never works. This dysfunction causes problems on both sides.
The 'fixers' really want to have the answers. They love the glow of 'expert' and most do sincerly want to help. The power in the role is quite seductive, especially when so many are begging them to have the answers.
The 'to be fixed' desperately want to believe that someone-anymore-must have the answers because they know they don't. And what a risk it is to be responsible for themselves when they are so sure that they don't know what they need to know.
And so the dance continues.
What a terrifying relief it is when we run into someone who gives us information-even a road map-and completely lets go of the outcome, knowing that there are other road maps and other information that may also be important.
