I sort of figured it be some work posting about a few message boards, going to various online communities, and recruiting some players. But from Roll20, /tg/, and other pen and paper related tools and sites I just haven't been unable to get a gaming group together after over a year of several attempts. My schedule just sucks that bad with how many weekend nights and evenings I work, and also being Pacific time means my weeknights are even worse for most people's playtimes. I'd really like to help run a nice rules lite, story telling focused, game for a few people, ideally in a 18th century gothic horror fantasy setting, very much like some of the best D&D 3e Ravenloft could be when it focused on dread and horror.
I am beginning to think the type of game I'd like, just doesn't seem to transfer over well to the virtual tabletop of online pen and paper play with web cams, mics, and map tools. If that is so though, it really surprises me given how strong a following a Neverwinter Nights persistent world I know set in Ravenloft is going on ten plus years and is heavily roleplay focused. It seems that horror roleplay, even romantic gothic, isn't as mainstream as I'd have believed.
I am starting to think I need to go outside the pen and paper roleplaying community to seek players more open to experimentation and cooperative storytelling. I've been looking at several ultra lite diceless rule sets to help, as it would lower any 'game' complexity for those new to the hobby or wanting to try it out. Much like looking for a LARPing group though, I am suspecting my preferences, and what I find fun, are not so widely shared.
