Once or twice a month, I used to get my nosferatu makeup and costume on, and attend my local horror LARP. It was free form, with a small group of non-player volunteers like myself taking direction from the organizer to help act out loosely scripted gothic horror scenarios, i.e., try and make players experience dread and horror over the course of the event. Whether as a monster, or as some other character, I really enjoyed the immersion experience. Also it was not hard to get into with all the sexy gothic costume wear to be found. Maybe it is a touch of nostalgia, or loneliness being a few thousand miles from where I grew up, but lately I have been missing those events a lot. Every so often I'll check local meetup sites for Seattle, but there doesn't seem to be much of a LARPer, let alone horror focused specific, community. I think of starting my own, and reach out to find people who are interested, but it just never seems to get any traction. So here is to hoping some day that horror LARP is one day tre chic about Seattle and I stumble into a good group to have some more great fun with again.
