Honestly, didn't hurt so much. Was initially a sharp burning sensation, that became a deep dull ache like I had hit my hand with a hammer. The digit block, where they had to inject a local, down to the bone, hurt more at the emergency room later.
My first finger's tip got pinched off by a cable spool on a winch, attached to an airline pallet, when a co-worker accidently turned it back on as I was working on it. To be honest, wasn't really his fault, the safety block on the machine wasn't working. He shouldn't have been able to turn it on in the first place. But I lost all the flesh on the fingertip, and had to have the remaining bone amputated.
About the only lasting effects have been one less nail to clip, occasionally missing a key as I type because my brain sometimes forgets the finger is shorter, and since it has a softer more 'velvet' like skin to it with the skin graft I am told it makes my 'bean flicking' efforts more appreciated. So all is well that ends well I guess.
