WORD OF THE DAY:
A self-coup, or autocoup (from the Spanish autogolpe), is a form of putsch or coup d'état in which a nation's leader, despite having come to power through legal means, dissolves or renders powerless the national legislature and unlawfully assumes extraordinary powers not granted under normal circumstances. Other measures taken may include annulling the nation's constitution, suspending civil courts and having the head of government assume dictatorial powers.[1][2][3]
[As of 2020] since the end of World War II, there have been 583 coup attempts across the globe, of which 288 were successful . . . About 96 percent were led by the military, while most of the others were carried out by civilian elites, said John Chin, research coordinator at the Institute for Politics and Strategy [in the United States]. . .
Chin said the data are less reliable for autogolpes—which do not have an agreed-upon academic definition—but he estimated a separate 148 autogolpe attempts since 1946, of which 110 took place in autocracies and 38 in democracies. In most cases, the leader has attempted to suspend a constitution or discredit judicial or executive branches of government.
NOW ME:
wow! this day is dark - pretty much what I expected, but still, it is the breaking of the bonds of the country. Once a hole is torn in the collective psychic agreement (like that monarchs were divine), that hole only opens wider--to end one era and to allow another in... sometimes better, sometimes worse. I have no doubt that this is healthy for the world, but it will be an expensive lesson for America. The more I think about the violence and abuse in this country it all comes back to the core karma: the violence and genocide of the Native American individuals and tribes. There will be no stability or authenticity to this country unless it addresses that - instead of spending more money on killing strangers than all other countries put together, spend that money on restoring Tribal lands and create wholesome treaties with their sovereignty. Only three nations in the world have ever completely destroyed the sacred lands and native peoples: America, Canada and Australia. All other nations have grown out of various hybrid mixtures of invaders and natives, and all the enduring nations consistently honor their roots and the sacred locales in their lands, whether that is or is not the state religion. Without confronting this utter evil at its root, nothing else will grow without eventually being consumed with deadly corruption...
This is by no means the end of America's bad karma - there is slavery, the abuse of immigrants, and the occasional bomb dropped on civilians every 30 minutes around the clock... but that, i believe was and is the beginning--and this is, i also believe, the beginning of the end of that--one way or the other.
