So I continue to be concerned about the situation in Tibet.. the Chinese earthquake is an interesting twist of something or other; I feel it is foolish and arrogant to presume it is a "judgment" or a "blessing in disguise." My mainland Chinese friends do feel that the impact of the earthquake was intensified by the building of that big dam in the area - drying out half the soil for the first time in millennia, and super-saturating the other half... Such is the brilliance of humankind
meanwhile I've been totally immersed in the Osiris Myth - in preparation for teaching a workshop on it. I like both Hare's and Assman's books on the subject. I disagree with their atheism, but their minds are clear and stimulating. Assman has helped me see some patterns I would have missed otherwise. There are precious few creative or substantive texts on this profound myth; if you-all happen to know of one, let me know!
I'm approaching the myth as a metaphor for spiritual awakening: Seth is the Ego-based fragmenter; powerful against chaos (Apophis) but deadly against the developing individual (Osiris); Once the ego has shattered the soul, it takes the Goddess of Light herself to gather it back together, and she needs the help of her sister Nepthys to get the job done. In her willingness to help the soul's arisal in our consciousness she, together with our own effort gives birth to Horus - the understanding, the arrival of a new wisdom-teaching. When Horus rules the world, then there is order; when Seth rules (as he so often does) then the ego dominates.
Is this wrong? I think not; it is simply the flow of life, surging forward and ebbing away again...

Hard candy is a good idea. I'll have to invest in some of that this weekend.
I haven't read Vachs! Should I?
