So most of the stuff that goes on here is playful, dramatic or promotional -- and occasionally someone posts something substantive. This is one of those posts--though I doubt anyone will read it!
I happen to be connected to the Tibetan community and have had a few rare and extraordinary conversations with His Holiness the Dalai Lama over the course of many, many years.
The situation in Tibet is getting worse and worse all the time, and it is likely to become full-blown genocide AFTER the Olympics. There is really no need for such abuse; the Tibetans pose no threats to the Chinese, have no wealth, other than that of a spiritual culture--which I suppose is the threat they present to the soul-deadening regime of the PRC.
The culture and history of China is a grand landscape, but a darkly bloody one; it seems clear that another chapter of blood-letting is about to happen.
It is just possible that it can be minimized, that at least some innocents can be spared if people take action.

call the damn whitehouse and Chinese embassy!
Write the NBC and tell them you're not going to watch it (even if you weren't any way).
50 years ago there was a holocaust in Germany; even though the US came to the rescue only a few years after it started, the damage had been done to a culture that essentially is no more. Take a moment and think what you can do this very minute to affect this current situation. In only a few minutes you can make a difference to a lifetime for someone else.
