Time for another artist share, going down the music rabbit hole as I sometimes do.
Clearly, I've been somewhat living under a rock in the non-metal department (hey, I don't always listen to metal!), because I've just discovered this stunning blues/jazz/R&B queen and her amazing voice, Adama Janlo from Oslo, Norway, with roots from Gambia.
She's a relatively fresh artist, who made her debut back in 2023, but she's already starting to make huge waves in the contemporary scene. A review of her EP "Misaligned" received a perfect 10/10 score from the website Musikknyheter (which basically translates to Music News), and she received a Young Artist scholarship from the Norwegian Blues Union. Suffice it to say, there's no doubt that she will continue to rise, hopefully not just here in Norway but also worldwide.
Her sound is versatile and unique, and you can tell she's singing from the very core of her soul. I'm also getting some wonderful hints of the powerful, slightly feisty R&B energy of Erykah Badu, and Heather Small from M People, and the emotional storytelling of Tracy Chapman. Her range is impressive; she can be soft and humble, or belt out like a lioness. If you ask me, this music you immediately fall in love with and groove along to. Plus, she is very pleasant and approachable, which is absolutely a bonus.
As luck would have it, just as I've started to listen to her music, it turns out she'll be performing at Postkontoret, April 5th. As soon as she told me about it, I did not hesitate for a second; I reserved a ticket to go see her live!
Here are a few samples of her fabulous music, starting with her most recent single from her upcoming debut album "A Free Woman":
