Received this diploma today, for attending a 12-hour mentor course (divided into three 4-hour sessions in as many days), for the organization I've been hanging out with lately.
This organization is for both former addicts and those of us who have been directly affected by addicts, and we can socialize and learn to master life together and gain mutual understanding.
This diploma does not guarantee that I'll get any position right away, it's just a confirmation that I've attended. But should I become an official mentor, it's nice to know that the system is designed for mentor and mentee to have similar background. A former alcoholic mentors another former alcoholic, same with other types of addiction, and a person who has been affected by others' addiction will mentor other next of kin.
That's reassuring to me because I first found it somewhat daunting to imagine myself trying to mentor someone who used to do heroin, for example.
Either way, it should be an interesting experience if I end up becoming a mentor.
